Scrubs Season 8 Wrap Party in the Hollywood Hills
Shari and I attended the Season 8 wrap party at a very exclusive mansion in the Hollywood Hills. The night got off to a rocky start with us being shuttled up the hill in a van in which the driver turned up the wrong street and got lost. Luckily I had looked up the address before hand and managed to guide our new driver, a producer on the show, to the correct address. Why were we shuttled? Well, because the roads up the hills are very narrow and there was absolutely no parking anywhere. So the kind people at Scrubs arranged for a shuttle service to and from Sunset Boulevard. After that, it was great. The mansion is huge with a beautiful view of LA. According to the mansion website, it is regularly used for hollywood type events. Just a 2 story, modern building but fun non-the-less. They had open bars, great food, a dance floor with DJ and a photo booth to take silly pictures on the 2nd floor. I saw all my friends from the show and had a great time. At about 11pm, Bill and Randall made a short and touching speech and then showed a great, very nostalgic video highlighting the many blooper and misadventures of Scrubs over the past 8 years. I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up on the Season 8 DVD. The night ended about 2 am with everyone leaving with a little chinese take out box of non-other then Roscoe's chicken and waffles. A great time was had by all. SCOOP: By the way, word around the party was that Scrubs would return for season 9. Check out a few pix in 'Scrubs Book'.

Finished filming Season 8, Episode 18 "My Finale"
I finished filming the season 8 finale aptly entitled "My Finale". There were over 40 guest stars present for JD's final day at 'Sacred Heart Hospital'. Without giving too much away, JD's final scene at the hospital has him walking down a very nostalgic memory lane, revisiting many of his friends and co-workers in one final reflection. Whether this is the final episode remains to be seen. What was cool about the day was not that I meet a majority of the stars on the show but that they had this cool 'Green Room' set up for us full of food and drink and this cool little tropical atmosphere. Check out photos in 'Scrubs Book'.

Season 7 Viewing Party at The Pacific Design Center
Shari and I attended the season 7 viewing party for the debut of the first episode of the last season at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. Drinks were flowing as the event was sponsored by Bombay Saphire and Hollywood Life Magazine. We had a great time as Season 7 will be a blast. Check out SCRUBS scrap book 2 for pix and blog link on the HOME page.

EPISODE #705 "My Growing Pains" AIRDATE: 11/29/07.
REX is BACK AGAIN for Season 7! I just completed work on Episode #705 'My Growing Pain'!
Directed by Zach Braff... "Rex" gets abused... again... this time by HOOCH (Phill Lewis - The Suite Life of Zack & Cody)! HOOOCH is Crazy!

(6/28/07)
Hey, I just finished a short interview for the Scrubs season 6 DVD. Apparently, Bill and Randall thought it would be fun to have some of the 3rd tier characters share some of their personal experiences on the set. Also, included are Snoop Dog Intern (Manley Henry), Colonel Doctor (Bob Bencomo), and others. I just hope I didn't make a complete ass out of myself. Special Thanks to Lindsey Kohon and the crew over at Playground Media Group.

Here is a list of REX abuses:
1) Chest cut open with a buzz saw by JD while building homes for the homeless.
2) Pushed off a 5 story building by JD during a trust exercise.
3) Caught in the fetal position by JD and other interns while making rounds.
4) Part of a finger bitten off while trying administer medication to Mrs. Levin.
5) Called "the most incompetent intern" by JD in front of Dr. Reid and other interns
6) Caught in a Bi-racial love fest with Dr. Cox while being confronted by JD.
7) Had one sideburn shaved off by Dr. Cox because Rex's license plate says PARTYDOC.
8) Called a portly island boy by Dr. Kelso.

Season 6 wrap party at Tropicana Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel, Hollywood. Shari and I had a absolute fabulous time with the entire cast and crew. Detailed report will be posted in the blog as soon as I recover from this hang over, again.

(11/13/06)
EPISODE #610 "My Therapeutic Month"
Just completed a very quick day of work on Episode #610 "My Therapeutic Month" which basically means "Rex" will be seen and references about "Rex's" religion will be made for a very brief moment... Stay Tuned!

(9/19/06)
EPISODE #604 "My House"
REX is BACK for Season 6! I just completed work on Episode #604 'My House'! I can't disclose the details but "Rex" gets abused... again... so what else is new, right???!

(4/27/06)
Season 5 wrap party at Rain in the Palms resort and casino, Las Vegas. Shari and I had a absolute fabulous time in Las Vegas with the entire cast and crew. Detailed report will be posted in the blog as soon as I recover from this hang over. Shari took some nice pix which will be posted in the scrapbook in about a year or so.

(4/21/06)
Episode #524 "My Transition"
SEASON FINALE ONE HOUR SPECIAL!
Awesome, I was so very fortunate to be included in the season finale!!! Just one small scene (although rumor has it that I would have been more involved if I were in town... bummer). This is the one where everyone finds out they are pregnant... can you say cliffhanger?

(1/24/06)
Episode #516 "My Own Chopped Liver"
WOW, I completed yet another episode #516 "My Own Chopped Liver". This is the 5th episode for me and my alter-ego "Rex". This is the one "Rex" gets busted by "JD" in a "interacial love fest" with Dr. Cox.

(1/14/06)
100th episode party at the Cabana Club in Hollywood.
Shari and I attended the 100th episode party with Red Carpet, Papparazi, Free Booze... what more could you ask for. Pictures will be posted in my scrapbook as soon as I use up the rest of my film in the instamatic (I forgot the digital camera at home... opps). Check out my blog for details.

(1/13/06)
Episode #514 "My Own Personal Hell"
This is the one "Rex" loses part of a finger and says "OOooo Banana".

(12/8/05)
Episode #511 "My Buddy's Booty"
This is the one "Rex" cries like a baby in the fetal position.

(9/5/05)
I completed work on the Emmy Award winning series (duh, for editing )... [SCRUBS] on NBC. What a great show!!! I play one of JD's (Zach Braff) interns "Rex" on the show.
Episode #501 "Through My Interns Eyes"
Episode #502 "My Rite of Passage"
Episode 2 is the one "Rex" gets pushed off a 5 story building and gets cut open with a buzz saw.

Special thanks to Brett Benner and Debby Romano of Romano & Benner casting. They took a chance and brought me in to audition off of a postcard I sent them.
I'd like to send a shout out to Bill, ZB, Donald, Sarah, Neil, Johnny K, Ken, Johnny C., Travis, Shaughn, Jordan, Christina, Randall and the most excellent cast & crew at [SCRUBS]!!!
Hopefully I'll be recurring throughout season 5 & 6 & 7. Wish Me Luck!!! Better yet "Break a Leg"!!!

Scrubs Scoop on season 9 (* Spoiler Alert *)

from Michael Ausiello at EW.com dated 5/20/09

I'm curious to hear your take on the whole Scrubs renewal. The "series finale" was so wonderfully sweet and sappy, how can they come back from something so final? --Sydney
Ausiello: I would have preferred it end right there, but it's hard to argue with Bill Lawrence's justification for continuing. "There are 107 people that work on that show," he reminded me earlier this week. "I've worked with them for eight years now. If there's a chance for everybody to work another year, my attitude, business-wise, is 'legacy-schmegacy.' I couldn't give a f--k, to tell you the truth. I thought the first eight years of Scrubs was great. I'm super proud of it. There's absolutely nothing that could possibly happen that could change that... On the creative side, some people are like, 'It should end on a high note creatively. It shouldn't be something that taints our memory.' And I get that. [But the other] 50 percent of the people are like, 'Oh my god, I'm so glad to have a show back that I care about.' The way to bridge that gap is I've got to consider Scrubs over. The way that I'm viewing it is the way Frasier was to Cheers: It'll be essentially a new show with some characters that people liked."

Question: What will the ninth season of Scrubs look like? Will Sarah Chalke be taking over JD's duties? --Tony
Ausiello: Probably not, considering Chalke isn't looking to return full time, per Bill Lawrence. "I would've had Sarah in a heartbeat," he says. "I think she's got enough going on in her career [right now]. I'd say it's 50-50 she's in some episodes. I know she'll at least be in one or two." My guess? In light of the fact that ABC passed on Donald Faison's comedy pilot, The Law, Lawrence will go with the "Turk teaching at med school" premise he's been kicking around. Whatever idea he ultimately goes with, "The one promise I would make to people is that if this does suck, it won't suck in a lame fizzle-out kind of way," he says. "It will suck in a huge way. It will really, really suck." If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: Few things in life are as entertaining as interviewing Bill Lawrence.

From The Hollywood Reporter dated 5/15/09

It’s official -- ABC on Friday renewed veteran comedy “Scrubs” for a ninth season.

The move comes on the heels of producing studio ABC Studios locking in most of the main cast members who had no deals beyond the current eighth season, the show’s first on ABC after a seven-year run on NBC.

Star Zach Braff is set to come back for six episodes to transition the show to its new set-up.

It us understood that Sarah Chalke has been approached with a similar deal, but it's not clear if she will be rejoining the series. (Chalke has a recurring role on another comedy, CBS' "How I Met Your Mother.")

Donald Faison, John C. McGinley and Neil Flynn have all closed deals to continue as regulars in second position to their pilots. Faison and Flynn co-star in hot ABC pilots, "The Law," which is already unofficially staffing, and "The Middle," respectively. McGinley is on CBS' drama pilot "Back."

Meanwhile, Judy Reyes has not been approached for a deal but may appear as a guest star. On Friday night, it wasn’t clear if "Scrubs" would continue as a single-camera comedy or would switch to a multi-camera format or a hybrid single/multi set-up.

ABC and creator Bill Lawrence had said they envision the show continuing with a mix of original cast members and some of the interns introduced this past season.

Season 9 is looking more and more likely!

This from Variety dated 5/12/09

"Also on Tuesday, the outlook on a surprise (or not-so-surprise, at this point) ninth season of "Scrubs" was continuing to improve: According to insiders, offers had been sent out to the show's cast, with a good number expected to return -- including star Zach Braff -- for at least some of the episodes."

"On the "Scrubs" front, insiders say ABC and ABC Studios are kicking around several ideas with exec producer Bill Lawrence on how to bring the show back -- perhaps retooling it as a multicamera comedy or moving it to a new location, such as medical school."

A Funny Interview with Scrubs creator, Bill Lawrence

You gotta love my good friend, Bill Lawrence; he never censors himself.
This was in TV Guide:

Scrubs Boss Blasts NBC, Previews "Serious" Changes

One of the many reasons I love Bill Lawrence is that the dude doesn't mince words. At a time when sound-bites have become as carefully crafted as a Martha Stewart petit four, Bill continues to tell it like it is. And on the heels of the official confirmation that Scrubs is headed to ABC for an 18-episode final season, he has a lot to tell. About the show's network-hop. About the beef he has with the suits at NBC. And about the somewhat radical changes in store for J.D. and Co.

Why'd it take so long to announce this thing?
Bill Lawrence: As I understand it, it was legally very important not to say anything officially until after the show had finished its run on NBC.

What led to the break-up with NBC?
Lawrence: When the strike ended, we told NBC that, even though we had another seven episodes mapped out, we could do it in three, and they just didn't have any interest. Total harsh buzz of not giving a s--t about a show that had been on the network for seven years and made them millions of dollars. And I'd be more bitter, except that it worked out good for us.

They didn't want to do any kind of wrap-up?
Lawrence: Not only did they not want to do any kind of wrap-up, but they took an episode that was supposed to air in the middle of the season — the fairytale episode — and marketed it as a series finale. Which was bulls--t. It was never supposed to be a series finale, much less a season finale, and I think it ended up getting judged kind of harshly because of it. If it was just a regular episode that people had tuned into I think they would've thought it was cool and funny.

I was under the impression NBC was willing to give you one episode to finish things off. No?
Lawrence: Well, here's the thing. When the strike ended, NBC said, "You can shoot an hour-long finale, but we'll only pay for half of it." They wanted [ABC Studios] to suck up all the expenses, and ABC said that was unacceptable. And it felt especially harsh because Scrubs was pulling in better [ratings] than 30 Rock and My Name is Earl — even though I love those two shows — and they were encouraged to do as many f--king episodes as they can after the strike. And after seven years, I ask for three episodes to wrap up the series and they say, "Tough s--t."

How do you go from three episodes on NBC to 18 on ABC?
Lawrence: It was weird, man. I was thinking we'd put these last six episodes on DVD, just so we can wrap the show up and be proud of it, but the head of ABC Studios, Mark Pedowitz, said, "Bill, if you can make the show a little cheaper, I can probably get us a full season on ABC." I didn't answer right away. The first thing I did was call the cast and the writers together and I said, "Look, if we're going to do this, we have to get back to something we creatively can all be excited about." Because, personally, I felt like this past season we were less than inspired comedically. So I said to them, "This means you guys working harder. It means having emotional stakes and losing all the goofy, broad stuff that I think is easy to write… " And everyone said they were on board for one more season.

Will the show still be a comedy?
Lawrence: It's still a comedy, but when we first did the show, it was a drama with elements of comedy and lots of stupid sound effects. But some of the strongest episodes in the second and third year had character comedy. You can still do things like kill Brendan Fraser and have the lady that loved musical theater die and then sing a song at the end. This became a very Simpsons-esque show with incredibly broad, unrealistic moments and fantasies that were both in reality and not in reality. When you've been writing this show for seven years, it's so easy to get into these patterns of writing the same jokes over and over: J.D. loves Turk, J.D. wants Dr. Cox's approval, Elliot's whiny and neurotic. But this year the stuff is really f--king good. I think our old stand-by fans are really going to dig these shows.

Is Ken Jenkins (Kelso) still a series regular?
Lawrence: He's still a series regular. The core of his participation this year is with Dr. Cox, who becomes Chief of Medicine. Now that Dr. Kelso is no longer a hospital bureaucrat, he is actually a decent human being and is Dr. Cox's confidant because Cox can't really talk to anyone else about how much that job sucks.

I heard you were looking to cast a new Chief.
Lawrence: That's just a piece of stunt casting that we're going to do for three episodes.

Talk to me about these budget cuts that ABC requested. Are we going to notice anything missing?
Lawrence: No. We have a smaller writing staff and we're filming the show in four-and-a-half days instead of five. And, you'll never notice it because we have so many actors on the show, but every cast member is taking two episodes off.

Even Zach?
Lawrence: Even Zach. Remember, I've done one or two episodes every year where J.D. isn't in the show except for one line, and some other character has the voiceover. It wasn't all that noticeable. It just looks like a cool creative choice.

It's OFFICIAL... SCRUBS is moving to ABC! Here is the latest story from Daily Variety dated May 13th, 2008...
___________________________________________________________________________
Also new to ABC, as expected, is "Scrubs," the ABC Studios comedy that just finished up its eight-year run on NBC. Ensembleer, which has been picked up for 18 episodes, will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. in the winter, when the "Dancing With the Stars" results show goes on hiatus.

ABC repped a better home for "Scrubs," McPherson said, "given that their (old) network rarely promoted them at all," he said. "It's a great addition for us and helps as we expand our comedy brand."

McPherson said "Scrubs" exec producer Bill Lawrence has already pitched several plot points, including a new chief of medicine character. The entire cast will be back.

"Scrubs" will be paired with animated half-hour "The Goode Family," from Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky.

Here is the latest exert from Daily Variety Posted: Fri., Mar. 21, 2008, 3:28pm PT

After 14 seasons, "ER" was set to take a final bow this year, while NBC had promised that "Scrubs" would say its farewells this spring. CW's "Smallville" was also expected to take flight in May, and ABC's "According to Jim" wasn't even expected to be back this year, much less next.

Post-strike, these time-proven shows are looking a lot better to webheads: "Smallville" has already secured a pickup, while "ER," "Scrubs" and "Jim" are all expected to make return trips to primetime next year as well.

And should "Scrubs" move to ABC, as expected, the Alphabet net can dramatically lower that comedy's license fee. NBC still has several more episodes in the can, ready to air in April. For ABC, it's the chance to add a critically acclaimed vet sitcom to the lineup, as it slowly tries to rebuild its laffer stable.

At ABC Studios, an additional season of "Scrubs" allows it to reap more money in off-net syndication.

Scrubs Moving from NBC to ABC for one more Season!!!

From a story from Daily Variety dated March 11th, 2008 9:49pm PT

"As for the Peacock's other medical series that was slated to retire this June, "Scrubs" is also now expected to make a return next year. Star John C. McGinley was even quoted this week as saying the show's long-rumored move from NBC to ABC is a done deal. But as of Tuesday, ABC Studios had not officially announced the laffer's fate."

Scrubs
9:30-10:00pm NBC
in the sitcom's seventh, final season, creator Bill Lawrence promises some closure. "This year isn't gonna be Elliot [Sarah Chalke] and J.D. [Zach Braff] being together or not," says Lawrence. "It's more about whether J.D. and Turk [Donald Faison] are a couple and whether J.D. will get a hug from Dr. Cox [John C. McGinley]. Unfortunaley we've killed a lot of our favorite guest stars. But we'll bring back Scott Foley, Tom Cavanagh. We're trying to book John Cusack." Lawrence admits: "A lot of it is about having to make good on the promises I've made to the cast members. Neil Flynn, the janitor, wanted a name and a girlfriend, so I have to do that." (Oct.25 debut)

(5/14/07)
Daily Variety is reporting that NBC will be picking up Scrubs for a 7th and final season... in the words of Ted Buckland... Yipppeeeeee! You can read the story
HERE and HERE. Apparently NBC will be making the anouncement at their Fall season upfronts today. Scrubs will remain on Thursdays at 9:30p following "The Office". Although, NBC is only planning to order 18 episodes, you can bet that this season will not only be the wackiest, but will definately be the last... Awww. Let's hope that 'Rex' plays a major part in Sacred Hearts demise... I mean, retirement.

Check out this Q & A on Donald Faison ie. 'TURK' at
EW.com!

In this weeks Entertainment Weekly (March 9, 2007), Deal Report column... Zach Braff says "It's looking more and more like there may be a seventh year [of NBC's Scrubs]. Lots of secret talks." Let's keep our collective fingers crossed.

SCRUBS (NBC) - Zach Braff has signed on for a potential seventh season of the veteran Peacock comedy. The one-year pact is understood to be valued in the $350,000 per episode range, which would make him one of the highest paid actors on television. Said deal however is contingent on NBC renewing the series for a seventh season.
